Frequently Asked Questions
Telehealth therapy (tele-therapy) is conducted over a secure audio/video online platform from your home or wherever you are most comfortable. Many people feel that tele-therapy is more convenient, confidential, and comfortable than traditional therapy. Tele-therapy increases access to services, as you don’t have to travel to/from a physical office space for your appointment. There are also special considerations and limitations to tele-therapy. You must have a private space for therapy sessions that is free from distractions. You must also have reliable internet connection and a device with both audio and visual capabilities (computer, smart phone, etc.) Tele-therapy may not be appropriate for individuals requiring more intensive support (such as intensive outpatient or inpatient care, those who have active self-harm/suicidal behaviors). Currently, I use HIPAA compliant doxy.me platform for tele-therapy services. Before our first appointment, I will provide instructions for logging in and using this technology.
The consultation is likely the first contact we will have with eachother. It is a simple introduction over the phone, and allows us to briefly get to know each other. Consultations typically last 10-15 minutes. During this time, I will ask questions to better understand what brings you to therapy, and what has been helpful to you thus far. The consultation also provides you the opportunity to ask any initial questions you may have about me and my practice methods. If you feel that I may be a good fit for your needs at the end of the consultation, we will schedule your first session.
Our first session together will last 75-90 minutes, giving us time to get to know each other, to identify your goals for therapy, and coordinate a plan that will help you reach your goals. We will review the forms that I have sent you in advance and talk about your previous history. If necessary, I may provide you with relevant assessment questionnaires designed to help us track your progress.
We are in network with Aetna and Cigna Health Insurance. We are also Tricare East certified. We also work with out of network benefits or self pay.
Out of Network: As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I can provide you a monthly super bill for you to seek partial reimbursement for out of network therapy. You are responsible for checking with your insurance to ask if they offer reimbursement for non-participating providers. Please note that some insurance plans do not offer benefits for tele-health services, so you may also need to verify this directly with your health plan.
Self Pay: The benefits of using self-pay therapy services are increased confidentiality. Permanent diagnosis is not recorded on your medical record, placing you in the driver’s seat of your care. Many individuals, particularly those working for the federal government, first responders, helping professionals, or those with an active security clearance prefer this increased privacy.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
Currently, I conduct tele-therapy sessions on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays between 10am – 2pm EST. My hours are subject to change depending on need and availability. Most individuals I work with are seen on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
Because therapy is individualized, the extent of services you may need will vary, depending on assessment and your personal preferences. Most individuals choose to attend therapy weekly, but the frequency of our sessions may be more or less, depending on your needs. We will work together on determining a comfortable frequency and length of treatment that best meets your goals. We will periodically review this need throughout our work together. You always have the right to end treatment at any time.
